Curriculum at Wednesfield High Academy
We build our academy around our five Academy Values of: RESPECT, RESILIENCE, PRIDE, OPPORTUNITY and SUCCESS.
Our curriculum embodies these values and our aim is to provide an excellent education for all of our students in order to bring out the best in every one of them and to prepare them for success in life.
We aim to provide our students with a learning journey that develops their character and deepens knowledge, skills and understanding across all aspects of the curriculum.
Subjects are faculty based. We have five faculties; Active Arts, Commerce, Communications, Humanities and STE (Science Technology Engineering). Each has a Head of Faculty with support from the academy Teaching and Learning specialists.
The curriculum is planned to be seamless and subjects use assessment maps, schemes of work, learning journeys and associated resources to ensure students develop the knowledge, skills, understanding and character to be successful.
We operate four teaching cycles and, at the end each teaching cycle. students are assessed. Following on from this assessment, students will be given their own individual Question Level Analysis (QLA) for every subject that they study. This document may look slightly different across subjects but will support students with identifying the gaps in their knowledge. The QLA identifies what our students have done well in an assessment as well as what each student's gaps in knowledge appear to be. Teachers will use this information to help inform their planning in the next teaching cycle of lessons. Students are expected to use this QLA as part of their independent study to support with reducing the gaps in their own learning.
Our curriculum encompasses the specific subjects taught within the five faculties and the wider curriculum. This ensures that students develop as well – rounded individuals through a planned programme of PSHE, RSE, RE and Careers.
