Team Wednesfield Values
Ensuring that your child is happy, safe and well cared for is extremely important to us. The structures within the Academy are aimed at ensuring that this happens day in day out and that this is the responsibility of every member of staff.
In each year group our Academic Leaders focus on the progress of every student in every year group. They make sure that support is in place as soon as possible, when required. Student Support Leaders watch carefully and support students to make sure that they are happy and safe, intervening when issues arise. We also have a dedicated Safeguarding Officer who provides individual support with student issues.
Throughout their time at the Academy students take part in a planned progressive careers education guidance helping them to reflect on their futures. This work is aimed at supporting students to see the purpose of learning in securing the next steps in their employment, education or training.
The Academy has very high expectations of attendance as we know the impact that low attendance has on students learning and their future choices. Expected attendance is at least 96%. We understand that this is one of the ways to help your child get the best possible start to their life. Good attendance shows future employers that your child is reliable and there is a growing bank of evidence that shows children who go to school regularly are less likely to be involved in anti-social behaviour or crime.
When your child is not in school they quickly fall behind in their learning and can become disheartened and disaffected with school. The Academy employs Student Support Leaders who work with parents to maintain good student attendance. Wolverhampton Local Authority support us to promptly take action/provide extra support when attendance causes concern.
Teaching & Learning
At Wednesfield we are passionate about ensuring that our students receive consistently high standards of teaching and learning across all curriculum areas. We strive to deliver lessons that are engaging, challenging, active and meaningful whilst reflecting the students’ individual needs. Through effective marking and feedback we encourage our students to be reflective and independent learners taking a lead in their own progress.
To make sure that teaching and learning is as high quality as possible all teachers are involved in regular training programmes and support, including the national Specialist Schools and Academies Trust TEEP programme. (Teacher Effectiveness Enhancement Programme).
We are proud of the variety of enrichment activities provided at the Academy. These are essential tools in engaging all students with continued learning outside of the classroom and give further opportunities to accelerate progress.
As part of an 11-18 academy, our students have first choice access to our Sixth Form which benefits from high quality teaching that understands how to build upon previous knowledge and skills. Staff pride themselves upon the excellent working relationships they have with our students.
The Sixth Form at Wednesfield offers the opportunity to study a wide range of both academic and vocational courses, providing them with the qualifications required to follow their chosen career path. As part of a city-wide consortium, students also have the opportunity to access a wider choice of courses, this ensures their programme of study is bespoke and fulfils all individual needs.
We are a traditional school based sixth form with continued high expectations for student achievement, behaviour and attendance. Students are expected to wear smart business wear as their uniform.
A wide and varied enrichment programme is provided to in the development of wider key life and employability skills. We are very conscious that universities, apprenticeship providers and prospective employers look for the wider expertise a student possesses that not only complement academic attainment, but also enhance their growth into confident adults.
