Careers Guidance at Wednesfield Academy
Supporting students to make informed choices about their future careers is of utmost importance to us at Wednesfield. Having been awarded the Careers Quality Award at Gold standard in January 2020, our provision has been identified as amongst the best in the country and we are extremely proud to have been recognised as such.
Students start their careers education journey when they attend the Year 6 induction day. Our careers ambassadors will deliver a careers related session to all new students to start the process of thinking about potential careers that could interest them. Upon arrival in Year 7, all students will receive weekly careers sessions and this will continue until Year 11. In addition, we provide students with a wide range of opportunities to experience the world of work with face to face contact with employers, apprenticeship providers, colleges and Higher Education Institutions.
Students in our sixth form are supported with all aspects of UCAS applications or applying for apprenticeships and employment. The level of support is unrivalled and has been recognised as such by Ofsted in December 2018 who said that “Careers education is a strength of the school. Consequently, almost all pupils and students move to education, employment or training when they leave Year 11 or Year 13”.
